Description

Ordered directly from Germany in April 1971, this Type 2 VW Campervan landed on Jersey shores in June of the same year. Aside from a brief spell in 1978, it had been lovingly retained in the same ownership from new until we found it a new owner in July 2024. Due to unexpected circumstances, it has now become available again.

Exploring the exterior, the black paintwork is beautifully presented, and this theme continues underneath the campervan. The exterior panels are all incredibly solid and importantly, free of corrosion. The front doors are the only panels which have been replaced during the past 53 years. The exterior condition is a testament to the owner’s attention to detail and as a result of being dry stored throughout its life.

Moving inside, the front cabin provides a white leatherette bench seat for 2 passengers, which is in excellent condition. The drivers side seat is also presented very well. The door cards and dashboard are also presented well, with all dials and associated switches fully operational.

Moving into the rear, you’re presented with an immaculate traditional 70’s style living area. This includes a gas hob/cooker which cleverly swivels so it can be used inside or outside, a kitchen area with a sink and electric pump and finally a tilt and fold out double bed.

In addition to the main sleeping area, another key feature of this campervan is its pop-up roof. Manually operated from inside the rear cabin, it quickly and easily opens-up the interior space and also provides a hammock for further sleeping capacity.

Open the rear hatch, and the engine bay is as clean and well presented as the exterior. Mechanically, the original 1600cc engine has been very well maintained throughout its life. Including new cylinder heads, push-rods, carburettors and a stainless steel exhaust. Most recently, the front discs and pads and rear brake shoes have all been replaced. This Campervan starts and runs perfectly and is regularly driven.

The period 14-inch white steel wheels all feature chrome centre hub caps, all four tyres are in great condition and retain a significant amount of tread.

This Type 2 Volkswagen Campervan is a stunning example of the ever-popular VW Campervan. A Jersey car from new, it’s beautifully presented both inside and out and mechanically in great order. It’s been lovingly cared for by its long-standing owner which is reflected in its condition. An amazing opportunity to acquire a highly original appreciating classic.
