Description

Introduced in 1956, the Series III Morris Minor 1000 represented the most refined iteration of Alec Issigonis’ iconic design, combining simplicity, reliability, and timeless British styling. This particular example, a 1958 model, is notable for being an original convertible—a far rarer and more desirable configuration than the many saloon-to-convertible conversions seen today.

Finished in an attractive period colour, the car retains a nicely aged appearance that speaks to its authenticity and careful preservation rather than over-restoration. The bodywork is described as solid and rust-free with straight panels throughout. The paint and chrome show a gentle patina consistent with age, enhancing its classic character rather than detracting from it.

The interior presents very well, maintaining much of its original charm. The seating, trim, and dashboard are in good order, showing light, honest wear appropriate for a well-kept 1950s car. The folding hood fits securely and operates as intended, providing both open-top enjoyment and weather protection when required.

Benefitting from ongoing maintenance, it received a comprehensive service in June 2024, including the fitment of new front and rear Spax suspension units, larger wheels with new tyres, new wheel bearings, and an oil and filter change. Since the service, the car has covered only around 100 miles. The registration J61958 nicely corresponds with its year of manufacture, adding to its period charm.

Mechanically, it’s powered by the reliable 1100cc A-series engine, paired with a four-speed manual gearbox, delivering the easy, engaging drive the Minor is known for. The recent updates further improve ride quality and handling while preserving its original character.

Overall, this 1958 Morris Minor Convertible Series III is a delightful example of an original soft-top model with low believed mileage, solid structure, and strong mechanical integrity. Its combination of originality, patina, and careful upkeep makes it a particularly appealing choice for any collector or enthusiast seeking a usable and characterful British classic.
