Description
The BSA A7 was the first of the BSA twin-cylinder motorcycles. The outbreak of World War II delayed the launch, with the A7 finally being launched in September 1946 when hostilities ended. First launched with a rigid frame and telescopic front forks, BSA continued to enhance the A7 for the next 15 years. The Shooting Star or ‘SS’ was introduced in 1955 with a new swinging are frame. The engine had a hotter cam, and compression was upgraded from 6.6:1 to 7:1. It also now featured an alloy cylinder head and was presented with a black frame and light green tank, mudguards and side panel.
This highly original 1960 BSA A7 SS is an excellent example of the classic British bike. Originally from the UK, it came across to Jersey in 1966 where it has remained since.
Having been recommissioned to a very good standard, the traditional light green colour scheme is presented in excellent condition; the same can be said for the chrome work. The black leather seat with white piping still features the original signage on the rear. Completing the aesthetic of this A7 SS are the brand-new British specification chrome wheels which have just been fitted; they include stainless steel spokes, rebuilt hubs and new tyres.
The simplistic instrument panel is uniquely incorporated within the headlight housing and features a larger diameter speedometer, battery amperage meter and headlight switch.
It’s powered by a 500cc twin-cylinder engine with the correct alloy cylinder head and 4-speed gearbox. This SS runs very well, and with the brakes having been overhauled it would now benefit from some more regular use. This bike also comes with the desirable and rare fully enclosed chain guard which has just been powder coated and ready to be fitted.
The BSA A7 SS is an excellent example of the classic British motorcycle which has been recommissioned to a very good standard, whilst allowing further tinkering to be had if desired. In great mechanical order, it stands ready to be enjoyed and would make a perfect addition to any classis bike collection.
