1976 David Brown 885

Winning Bid: £4,600.00

David Brown became one of the biggest post war British tractor manufacturers. This 1976 model 885 is a fantastic working example that has been reconditioned to a very good standard.

Description

David Brown Limited were originally a British engineering company who specialised predominantly in producing gearbox parts from their factory in West Yorkshire.  It wasn’t until the early 1930s when they started producing tractors and quickly became one of the biggest agricultural manufactures in Britain.

Another fascinating aspect to the company’s history is that they also acquired Aston Martin in 1947, and Lagonda in 1948. The investment by David Brown led to the creation of the ‘DB’ series which Aston Martin still carry and use today.

Having been fully reconditioned, this 1976 David Brown 885 is fully capable of completing everyday farming chores, or equally taken for a fun run on a summer’s day.

It’s powered by a 2.7 litre, 3-cylinder diesel engine and coupled to a 10-speed (8 forward and 2 reverse) gearbox and mechanical clutch. The independent hydraulic system is also fully operational.

This 885 has been dry stored since being reconditioned and the exterior panels are all in very good condition. It’s finished in the traditional cream and red David Brown colours.

Both the chassis, engine and front and rear wheels have been finished in classic red; all the tyres still retain a significant amount of tread. The single driver’s seat is also finished in red and carries a few signs of age-related wear.

Mechanically, this David Brown runs perfectly and always starts without issue. During the recommissioning, any parts that were required have been replaced including elements of the suspension and engine. The vendor reports there are no mechanical or electrical faults, and all dials and associated elements are fully operational.

With their long and distinguished engineering history, David Brown were pioneers in their tractor development both pre and post war. This 1976 885 model has been reconditioned to a very good standard and is great example of classic British manufacturing for any tractor collection or enthusiast.
