Description
Launched to mark the Mini’s 20th anniversary in 1979 and phased out by 1980, the Mini 1100 special was the first true limited-edition model. Based on the Mk4 saloon body shell and available in just two-colour options, they were equipped with the 1098cc A-series engine, Exacton alloy wheels, plastic wheel-arch extensions and the 1275GT’s three-dial instrument. Now, at 45 years old, they are becoming very rare, particularly in the condition of this example which is a Jersey car from new with just 3 owners.
The exterior of this Austin Mini is in excellent overall condition. The body shell is very solid and has been kept in dry storage to help preserve this condition. The period Rose Red metallic paintwork really suits this Mini, the only blemishes of note being some very small imperfections on the drivers door. The roof is covered in tan vinyl which is also in great condition. The classic appearance of this Mini is completed with the special edition door stripes and decals.
Moving inside, the seats are all covered in the original beige and tartan fabric. The drivers seat shows signs of age-related wear and has received a repair and stitching; the remaining seats are all presented very well. Â The door panels, carpets and dashboard which includes the 1275GT’s three-dial instrument dash panel for the driver, are all presented in excellent condition with associated electrical elements and dials which are all in perfect working order.
This Austin Mini has only covered a genuine 69,557 miles from new. Mechanically it has been well cared for and the 1098cc A-series engine runs perfectly and is coupled to a 4-speed manual gearbox. The vendor confirms there are no mechanical faults.
This Austin Mini 20th Anniversary is undoubtedly a rare example, and they continue to grow in value. With an incredibly solid body shell which is presented in excellent condition, and perfect originality, this Mini is a fantastic collectable classic and stands ready to be enjoyed and appreciated.
