Description
The Ford Fiesta Mk1 was the first generation of the Ford Fiesta supermini, and was produced between 1976 until the Mk2 Fiesta was introduced in 1983. Mechanically, the Fiesta adopted the now industry-standard mechanical layout pioneered by Fiat with a transverse mounted engine coupled to an end-on four-speed manual gearbox. The Mk1 was widely credited as being Ford’s first globally successful front-wheel drive model. This particular example has been under the same ownership for over 10 years
The exterior of this Fiesta is presented in good condition overall. Having benefited from dry storage during the tenure of the current owner, the body panels are all structurally solid. The underneath continues this theme, benefiting from the factory underseal option from new. The traditional and original orange paintwork suits this retro Fiesta perfectly, whilst there are some small chips of note on the roof and bonnet (see gallery), the paintwork is otherwise presented well, including the pin stripes down both sides. A lovely addition to the front grill is the genuine Ford spotlights.
The 13-inch black steel wheels feature black centre caps, with all 4-tyres retaining a decent amount of tread.
Exploring the interior, the front brown fabric seats show expected age-related wear, with some splits of note down the outer edge on the driver’s side. The rear seats follow a similar theme with some split fabric along the top edge. The carpets, door cards and dash are otherwise presented well, with the original steering wheel also included in the sale.
Under the bonnet is a 957cc engine mounted to a 4-speed manual gearbox. The engine runs well and starts every time. The vendor reports there are no mechanical or electrical issues with the car. The sale also includes a number of spares which the vendor has collected over the years. A fantastic addition to the car is the original operating guide, handbook and service book.
Presented in good condition overall, this 1981 Ford Fiesta Popular is a great example of an iconic classic and would make a welcome addition to any enthusiasts collection.
