Description
The Jota was an innovation suggested to Laverda by UK-based importers the Slater Brothers. At the time in the mid-1970s, Richard and Roger Slater were racing the Laverda C3 as a way to promote their business and quickly saw it’s potential. After convincing Laverda to let them tune the C3, the brothers set to work by adding high lift camshafts, high compression pistons, racing exhaust and handling improvements. The Jota was born. Laverda were so impressed with the outcome they immediately put it into production in 1976 until 1982.
This beautiful 1981 Laverda Jota arrived from Belgium in 2019 and is believed to be one of only two in Jersey. It’s powered by the infamous 180-degree crank 981cc engine. The layout of the engine means it fires twice per 360 degrees instead of the usual 3 associated with triples. The outcome of this means plenty of torque and the unique thumping soundtrack. It’s covered 53,505 km (33,246 miles from new).
Benefiting from dry storage during its current owner’s tenure, the striking and renowned orange paintwork is in excellent condition across all the exterior panels. All the chrome is also presented very well, with the only slight age-related blemishes being on the rear indicator stalks. The black leather seat, padding and stitching are all in good condition and the sale will also include a new seat cover featuring the ‘Laverda’ stitching and decal to fit.
The simplistic instrument panel on the Jota compromises of two large diameter dials for the speedometer and rev counter. The electrical elements for the bike are all controlled from both sides of the handlebars and are in perfect working order.
The mechanical health of this Jota has been very well maintained. Most recently it has benefited from a carburettor strip down and rebuild, new intake stubs and manifold rubbers, brake master cylinder rebuild, valve shimming to factory tolerance and Malcolm Cox Engineering exhaust silencers. It stands ready to go at the push of a button.
The sale of this bike will also include an additional headlight and brackets to remove the current front fairing if preferred, along with a new chain cover.
With its name carved into the history books and its thoroughbred Italian heritage, it’s not hard to see why these bikes are so sought-after. Presented in excellent condition, this Laverda Jota is undoubtedly a fast-appreciating collectible classic.
