Description
It’s now the best part of five decades since the original E21 3 Series replaced the much-loved 2002 model, itself one of the two ranges that saved BMW. The E21 3 Series which was built from 1974-1983 was the next evolutionary step in BMW’s plan to keep up with Rivals Alfa Romeo and Lancia, who had both replaced their 1960s cars with bigger, heavier and more expensive models with much success. The result was a car that was slightly bigger than the 2002, but also quieter, smoother and more economical. The interior was also vastly improved and far more modern.
This 1983 example is a Jersey car from new, and as such has quite an interesting history. It’s previous owner for many years was Lee Durrel, best known for her work at Jersey Zoo with her late husband Gerald Durrel.
The bright white exterior is in overall excellent condition, benefiting from a full professional re-spray and being garaged for the last 14-years under the tenure of its current owner. The body trims and chrome work are scuff free along with the 13-inch Alpina wheels. The standard steel wheels have been retained and will be included in the sale.
The interior continues the same theme and is presented equally well. The blue leather front seats showing no signs of wear, the same can be said for the rear bench seat. The door cards, carpets and dashboard are also in excellent condition.
Under the bonnet is a carburettor fed 1.8 litre ‘M10’ four-cylinder engine, it’s coupled to a 5-speed manual gearbox. Mechanically, the vendor reports its in great running order with no faults or issues.
The E21 was the first of infamous BMW 3-series range, this highly original 316 model is an excellent example of the now classic coupe. Incredibly well maintained by its current owner and with an interesting local owner history, it would be a great addition for any BMW enthusiast.
