Description

The Morgan 4/4 was first introduced in 1936 and was Morgan’s first vehicle to feature four wheels. Prior to this, all Morgans had been three-wheelers—typically powered by V-twin engines—so the 4/4 model name was introduced to denote both four wheels and four cylinders.

Under the split-opening bonnet, this 1984 model houses the rare 1600cc Fiat Twin-Cam engine, which was used for a relatively short period between 1981 and 1985. Fewer than 100 examples were produced with this specification. The engine is paired with a five-speed Fiat gearbox. The recorded mileage is 63,544, which is believed to be genuine.

Adding to the rarity of this example is its full aluminium body, replacing the earlier steel variant. As such, the foundation of this 4/4 is very solid, with sound floors, chassis, and bodywork. The ivory cream paintwork presents exceptionally well, with no significant blemishes to note. The black vinyl hood is in excellent condition and can be easily retracted or removed for a full drophead experience.

Chrome wire wheels enhance the car’s classic appearance and are all in very good condition—including the spare. The tyres still retain a substantial amount of tread.

Inside, the seats (front and rear) and door cards are trimmed in original black leather. Now approaching 40 years old, the leather shows expected signs of wear from years of enjoyable use. The dashboard features a period Motorola eight-track stereo on the passenger side, along with fuel, water temperature, engine oil pressure, and battery voltage gauges centrally mounted. A large-diameter speedometer and tachometer sit directly in front of the driver.

Mechanically, this Morgan is in good order and starts reliably every time. It has recently received a full service, including a new cam belt, as well as replacement track rod ends and steering drop arms. It subsequently passed a full health check and received local registration from Driver and Vehicle Standards (DVS) Jersey.

This Morgan 4/4 is a sprightly and invigorating classic sports car—an ideal addition to any classic collection, or a fun and rewarding companion for a sunny weekend drive.
