The second generation four-door Sierra Sapphire Cosworth’s were only produced for a short period between 1988-1990. Although now sporting a more discreet appearance to try and steal sales away from Mercedes and BMW, there was no doubting it’s super saloon and performance credentials.
This 1988 Sierra RS Cosworth is presented in excellent condition overall. Under the bonnet sits an infamous 2.0 litre turbocharged 16-valve YBB engine which as standard produced around 204bhp, and delivered a 0-60mph time of 6.1 seconds. Coupled to this is a five-speed manual gearbox which delivers drive to the rear wheels. It’s covered 81,906 miles from new.
As this Sierra has benefited from being dry stored for the past 15 years, the Diamond white paintwork is presented in excellent condition. This theme continues across the exterior body panels which are all solid, with flush shut lines and no hint of corrosion. The significant care and attention that has been provided to this Sierra is clear to see.
There have been some modifications made to the exterior of the car during the previous owner’s tenure, including a headlight conversion and 17” 7-spoke Wolfrace wheels. The wheels feature some light scuff marks, and although the tyres retain a significant amount of tread they would however benefit from being replaced. The sale of this car will include some spare parts including the original headlights if preferred.
As this is a ‘Sapphire’ model, as denoted by the subtle badging on the rear door window trims, it was the higher trim option meaning it came equipped with extras such as electric windows front and rear.
Moving inside, the drivers Recaro seat has some age-related wear with some creasing and 3 small tears in the fabric. The passenger seat, door cards, dashboard and instruments are all presented in excellent condition and fully functional.
Mechanically, this Sierra has been very well cared for and comes with a history of receipts for all work completed over the years. Most recently, its’s benefited from a new cylinder head and turbo, cam-belt change and new brake pads. The seller reports there are no mechanical or electrical faults with the car.
This 1988 Sierra RS Cosworth is an excellent example of a nostalgic super saloon. With a beautifully presented exterior and potent turbocharged Cosworth engine under the bonnet, it would make a great weekend toy, show companion or addition to any collection of ‘fast fords’.
