Description

The Toyota Sera is a distinctive and forward-thinking coupe, best known for its dramatic butterfly doors (often compared to gullwing-style, but hinged at the A-pillars), and its futuristic design for the early 1990s. Produced primarily for the Japanese market, the Sera has become a sought-after modern classic, admired for its rarity and unique styling.

This particular example was first registered in 1991 and has had just four owners from new, a point worth noting given its well-preserved condition. Having covered only 37,546 miles, it has clearly been carefully maintained and garaged for significant periods throughout its life.

The exterior bodywork is presented in excellent condition, with no notable blemishes or scratches. The front end—including the bonnet and wings—has been professionally resprayed, resulting in a superb finish with consistent paint quality across the vehicle. The paintwork overall is in very good order.

The car sits on its original silver hub caps, all of which are in immaculate condition, while the tyres retain a significant amount of tread.

Inside, the cabin is remarkably well preserved for a vehicle of this age. The original seats show virtually no signs of wear, and the interior materials remain in excellent condition throughout. All features appear to be original, adding to the car’s authenticity and appeal. There is only very light wear noted on the original stereo/cassette player, consistent with age.

Equipment includes electric windows and air conditioning, both of which are in working order. The distinctive butterfly doors operate as intended, though the struts would benefit from replacement to improve ease of opening and holding position.

Mechanically, the car is reported to run and drive very well, with no warning lights present. It is powered by a 1.5-litre petrol engine paired with an automatic gearbox.

With its low mileage, limited ownership, and standout design, this Toyota Sera represents a rare opportunity to acquire a well-kept example of an increasingly collectible Japanese classic. Its combination of originality, condition, and unmistakable styling make it desirable addition to any collection or an eye-catching choice for enthusiasts seeking something truly different.
