Description

The Mk3 Golf VR6 was introduced in the early 1990s and quickly established itself as one of the defining hot hatches of the era. Its narrow-angle 2.8-litre V6 engine delivered smooth, effortless performance combined with a distinctive exhaust note. Today, the VR6 has become a highly regarded modern classic, with good examples becoming increasingly difficult to find.

This 1995 example is a desirable Highline specification, featuring five doors, full leather upholstery, air conditioning and a factory sunroof. Supplied new in Jersey, the car has remained on the island throughout its life and has been garaged continuously under its current ownership since 2018.

The exterior is currently finished in a matt black wrap, beneath which sits the original metallic black paintwork. The panels appear to be in good order overall, although the wrap limits a full assessment of the underlying paintwork. The car is fitted with 15-inch BBS alloy wheels, which suit the car well and complement its period look.

Inside, the cabin presents very well for a vehicle of this age. The black leather seats show only light, age-related wear with no rips or tears to note, and both the front and rear seats remain in good condition. The dashboard, door cards and trim are also well preserved. A new headliner has also recently been fitted, further improving the interior.

Mechanically, the car has benefited from significant recent investment, with many thousands spent less than 200 miles ago on maintenance and upgrades. This includes a major service with new plugs and filters, replacement of both the main and auxiliary water pumps, a new radiator, ABS sensors and cooling system components. The car has also been fitted with coilover suspension, Brembo brakes, strengthened driveshafts, new hubs and wheel bearings, rear suspension bushes, a new battery and four new tyres, along with a full fluid change.

The owner reports that the car starts on the button and runs and drives very well, with all systems functioning as expected.

Accompanied by two keys, its original books and manuals, and a full-service history, this Golf VR6 represents a well-maintained and increasingly collectible example of a much-loved performance hatchback. With values of clean, original cars on the rise, it offers an excellent opportunity to acquire a usable modern classic with strong enthusiast appeal.
