Description
The Morgan 4/4 was first introduced in 1936 and was Morgan’s first vehicle to have four wheels. Prior to this all Morgans had been three-wheelers, typically with V-twin engines, and so the 4/4 model name was launched to indicate both four wheels and four cylinders.
Under the split opening bonnet this 1984 model carries the rare 1600 Fiat Twin-Cam engine, which was used for a relatively short period between 1981-1985 during which less than 100 of this specification were produced. Coupled to the engine is a five-speed Fiat gearbox. Recorded mileage is 63,544 which is believed to be genuine.
A further rarity of this example is a full aluminium body, instead of the earlier steel variant. The foundation of this 4/4 is therefore very solid, with solid floors, chassis and bodywork. The ivory cream paintwork is also presented very well, with no significant blemishes of note. The black vinyl hood is in excellent condition and can easily be fully retracted or removed to enjoy a full drophead experience.
The chrome wire wheels add to the classic overall appearance of this Morgan and all are in very good condition, including the spare. The tyres still retain a significant amount of tread.
The interior seats both front and rear and door cards are all covered in black leather which being original and approaching 40-years old, do display signs of expected wear from enjoyable use over the years. The dash features a period Motorola eight track stereo on the passenger side, along with fuel, water temperature, engine oil pressure and battery voltage gauges in the centre. Larger diameter speedometer and tachometer sit directly in front of the driver.
This Morgan is in good mechanical order and starts first time, every time. It’s most recently received full service included a new cam-belt, along with track-rod ends and steering drop arms. It was subsequently given a full health check and a local registration from Driver and Vehicle Standards (DVS) Jersey.
This Morgan 4/4 is a sprightly and invigorating classic sports-car, which would make a great addition to any collection of classics or a fun and rewarding companion for a sunny weekend drive.
