Description
First launched in 1984 the Land Rover ‘90’ remains the iconic and very capable 4×4 work horse. This 1986 example provides a fantastic blank canvas for a potential rebuild project, which was the intention when it was purchased for by its current owner; however time constraints have meant it hasn’t been possible to progress.
The original bodywork is presented in mid-blue which over the years has gained a lovely patina. There are signs of corrosion around the front bulkhead and air vents, and on the bottom of the doors, however the seller reports the rest of the bodywork and chassis are in good condition.
The exterior is completed with the addition of a brand-new Exmoor Trim blue canvas hood, which has recently been fitted. It provides great versatility so you can enjoy this Defender in all weathers and enjoy the most benefit in the summer months when the sun is shining.
This Defender rides on a set of black 5-spoke 16” alloy wheels, all of which are carrying new BF Goodrich Mud-Terrain T/A tyres. Whilst the later style wheels were being fitted, the suspension was also enhanced and lifted by 2 inches.
Moving inside, this 4×4 has a certified overall seating capacity of 6. The 2 black leather front seats are in fair condition considering this car is approaching 40 years old, and the surrounding dash and door cards are also in keeping with its age. Moving into the rear, there is rubber matting on the floor and 2 black drop-down seats fitted on both sides, each with anchored lap seat belts providing additional safety for any passengers.
Under the bonnet is a 2.5-litre Diesel engine, delivering its power to all four wheels through a five-speed manual gearbox. The odometer of this example shows 144,478 miles from new, and the seller reports it starts and runs perfectly, and there are no known electrical or mechanical faults.
This 1986 Land Rover is a great opportunity for someone looking for a potential rebuild project, as it provides a perfect blank canvas and its new owner endless opportunities to enhance this iconic 4×4 as they wish. Equally, it’s perfectly usable as it stands today to be enjoyed throughout the summer with the sun is shining, and the soft-top rolled up.
