The Aprilia Moto 6.5 was only made for a short period of time – 1995-1997 and then reintroduced between 1999-2002. This very original example was made in 1997 and has been under its current ownership for the last 20 years.
It’s powered by a 649cc single cylinder Rotax five-valve engine which produces 42 bhp and delivers a distinctive sound from its twin stainless-steel exhaust. It’s covered 12,286 miles from new.
The striking silver panels with orange tank was the most well-known 6.5 colour scheme. Benefiting from dry storage during its current owner’s tenure, all the panels and paint remain in very good condition. The only age-related blemish appears on the rear of the seat where there are some very light cracks in the leather.
The instrument panel is made up of three different sized circular housings for the speedometer, water temperature and warning light. The seller reports that all electrical elements are in perfect working order.
Good mechanical health has always been maintained, and despite not being used frequently it stands ready to go at the push of a button. Both the front and rear tyres still offer a significant amount of tread.
The sale of the bike will also include the original wing mirrors which are currently not fitted, and original Aprilia manual which has accompanied the bike from new.
The Aprilia Moto 6.5 was built and designed to be an urban commuter, and there’s no denying it’s unusual and striking design courtesy of Philippe Starck is one to behold. Presented in fantastic original condition, this bike is undoubtedly a rare, fast appreciating collectible classic and believed to be one of only two in Jersey.
