First launched in 1994, the Ducati 748 was developed through several versions which culminated in the much-lauded hardcore 748R in the year 2000. At the time of launch, the Bologna firm described the 748R as the โmost advanced bike it had producedโ, and for good reason. Itโs comprehensive list of upgrades included an overhead โshower-injectionโ system combined with larger airbox, slipper clutch, bigger valves, new cams and pistons, CNC-machined cylinder heads and titanium conrods which combined delivered 106bhp, or 112bhp with a race exhaust. A revised frame and new Showa forks also contributed to produce a bike of stunning roadgoing performance and unprecedented racetrack ability.
This stunning 2001 Ducati 748R has been under the same ownership for the past 14 years. Itโs striking Rosso Corsa Red exterior panels including the white rear tail are presented in outstanding condition. The black vinyl seat shows no sign of wear, and the overall appearance has been tastefully enhanced with some discrete carbon fibre additions including the tank pad, chain guard and airbox side covers.
The simplistic instrument panel compromises of two large diameter dials for the speedometer and rev counter, along with a smaller dial for the engine temperature. The electrical elements for the bike are all controlled from both sides of the handlebars and are in perfect working order. Finally, in the centre of the handlebars is a small plate displaying the unique production number 0304.
The five-spoke dark silver Marchesini wheels are in excellent condition and have recently been fitted with Pirelli Rosso II tyres.
Moving to the heart of this 748R, the chassis, engine, associated mechanical elements and Termignoni stainless steel exhaust system are all presented in superb condition. The current owner has ensured meticulously mechanical care by adopting the services of well-renowned Ducati and 748 specialists Louigi Moto based in Southwest England.
Louigi Moto completed a full top to tail recommission service in 2020 which included new timing belts, clutch strip and service, fork seal renewal, full diagnostics tests and considerably more. The outcome of this attention to detail means this 748R runs perfectly with no faults reported. Itโs covered 10,350 miles from new.
