Description

The Mini Moke was originally designed by Sir Alec Issigonis as a small utility vehicle for the military, however its low ground clearance scuppered it chances of serving its country. Instead, the target market was pivoted to civilians where its unique styling, simple mechanicals, and open-air driving experience proved a huge success.

This 1989 Austin Rover Mini Moke is an excellent example of one of the last Mokes built by British Leyland before the rights were sold to Italian motorcycle manufacturers Cagiva in 1990. It carries the same suspension, 4-speed manual gearbox and 998cc A-series engine as the standard mini, with drive delivered to the front wheels. It’s covered just 20,136 miles from new.

Benefiting from being dry stored and well cared for during the 11 tenure of its current owner, the bodywork and floor panels are in excellent condition and the white paintwork continues this theme and perfectly suits the car.  The matching white vinyl hood which covers the cabin front to rear remains in very good condition; there are two small repairs which have been completed on the front edge towards the corner of the windscreen due to wear. The sale also includes the accompanying side panels/doors which can be attached in seconds to enable the cabin to be fully enclosed.

The 13-inch minilite style silver wheels are in excellent condition with no scuffs or curbing. All four tyres retain a decent amount of tread. It’s also fitted with a tow-bar.

Stepping inside, the interior continues the same theme as the exterior presenting in excellent order. The white leather front and rear seats are presented very well and feature red piping continuing the aesthetics throughout the car. The dash, floor mats and rubber side steps are also presented very well.

Mechanically, the reliable 998cc engine is in great working order and starts, runs and drives perfectly. This Moke received a full service in November last year and stands ready to be enjoyed in the sunshine by its new owner.

This Austin Rover Mini Moke is a unique classic with bags of charm and perfectly suited to Island life. Presented in excellent condition and with very low mileage, it’s a fun weekend or summer cruiser which is continuing to rise in value.
