Q2 ROUND-UP

15th July 2023

Welcome to our second round-up of 2023, an update which somehow brings us to the halfway point of the year…! Q2 has continued to be an incredibly busy few months for us, so we wanted to share some of our highlights and business updates.

Our desire to bring interesting and desirable cars, motorbikes and number plates to our online auction has seen our customer base grow by 63% since the start of the year, and the increased engagement we are seeing on a daily and weekly basis is incredible. This growth across the Channel Islands and UK has been one of the catalysts to our continued strong sale rate in 2023.

With sales in mind, let’s look at some of our highlights!

Hammer Price Numbers

Registration plates continue to be a hot commodity in Jersey, and ‘Hammer Price Numbers’ was our first venture into providing a special dedicated auction in this area. We were able to bring a collection of 11 low-digit plates (and associated vehicles) together, which then ran for 7-days culminating in the usual Sunday evening bidding frenzy! When the hammer dropped, we sold 6 of the collection with two highlights being J983 and JSY93 which sold for £32,000 and £26,500 respectively.

The Hammer Price Numbers auction also delivered one of our highest ever weeks in terms of views and site visits, topping over 8,000 in the space of just 7 days!

Classic Collection

We make no secret that classic cars and motorbikes are a real passion of ours, and we’ve had the pleasure of bringing some beautiful examples to auction in the last few months.

This 1969 saluki brown metallic Ford Cortina Mk2 1600 super was fantastic. With an incredibly solid and rust-free shell, original interior and a genuine 29,441 miles on the clock, it was a great opportunity to acquire an appreciating classic. When the auction ended it sold for £10,620 and made the trip across the channel to its new owner in Scotland.

We also sold this 1972 VW Beetle 1300. Again, this example had been kept in excellent condition following a full restoration in 2005 and the air-cooled flat four engine still sounded beautiful! This one is staying in Jersey and sold for £9,000.

Rounding up our classics, we have to mention one of our tractors. The agricultural market is one that took us by surprise, but we’re developing a real soft spot for these machines! This lovely cream and red 1976 David Brown 885 had a great history and sold for £4,600.

Track Focus

The Renault Megane R26R is still considered to be one of the best track focused hot hatches ever built, a fact reinforced by it achieving the title of ‘Fastest front-wheel-drive production car’ around the Nürburgring in 2008! This example was chassis number 014 of a production limited to just 450, making it unquestionably a hugely collectible modern classic. This example, however, which sold for £22,375, is going to be used exactly for what it was built for and will be tearing around tracks very soon!

Classic Goodwood

Finally, and providing a nice track related segway, we attended the May Day Bank Holiday track day at Goodwood in this 1964 Jaguar MK2. The car ran perfectly all day and being a fast and flowing circuit, left a few e-type drivers scratching their heads as to why they couldn’t shake off the saloon! It was great to get back behind the wheel and enjoy this great car and track.

Hopefully you’ve found this Q2 round-up interesting, we’ll continue to keep you updated over the next few months with lots more auction activity and further exciting plans ahead!
